It is located on the northern side of the city’s Mets Tagh, on the inaccessible peaks of the mountain ranges, horseshoe-shapedly covering the settlement, ensuring reliable protection of the city from the northern, western and eastern sides. The first historical information is found in the 13th century historian St. Orbelyan’s work “History of the Province of Sisakan”, according to which in 1083 the fortress had already been built. It was completely rebuilt in the 18th century.
